Intensive Services

Oolagen's Intensive Child and Family Program serves children, youth and their families with multiple and complex needs, who have had only limited success with traditional services and who require short-term, intensive counselling services.

The objective of this service is to strengthen the client's ability to function effectively in their home, school or community. The program is for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age (and their families). This service includes individual and/or family counselling; home visits and/or crisis intervention for existing clients.

Intensive services can be provided outside of the office - the location depends on the needs of the client. Counselling services can also be made available outside of traditional work hours and on weekends.

Our Intensive Child and Family Service team consists of two full-time staff.  We welcome referrals and inquiries directly from parent and adolescents.

Eligibility for this Intensive Service is primarily based on:
  • history or risk of repeated hospitalization, homelessness, family breakdown or placement outside of the home,
  • history of limited success with traditional service interventions,
  • needs of the child and family are complex and may include health, safety and housing issues,
  • family is or has been involved with two or more service sectors, and
  • the client has a history of avoiding school.

Provides an intensive approach for youth who otherwise might not receive service.

In 2009, 60 youth and families received Intensive Service at Oolagen.
